Angelo Lonyesi has revealed that his side lacked concentration in the first half of their 5-1 over Northern Gateway as they had their thoughts on NEC’s game against Lugazi in the StarTimes FUFA Big League on Thursday.

Going into the match day, Police had 47 points, were trailing NEC by four, and needed to win their match by all means possible to keep any hopes of promotion to the Uganda premier league.

Denis Kalanzi scored the fastest goal of the season after 58 seconds before Emmanuel Mugume doubled the lead in the 27th but their output was still wanting as the visitors cut the lead to one goal.

By halftime, Lugazi was leading NEC by 2-0 and that news could’ve found its way to Police’s changing room and provided the motivation need to dispatch Gateway mercilessly.

“We had two things in mind; we were thinking about our rivals NEC and we also wanted to win here,” Lonyesi said after the game.

“Those two things made our players not to concentrate in the first half and that’s why we missed so many chances. We addressed that, concentrated in the second half, and scored three goals,” he adds.

Emmanuel Mugume restored the two-goal cushion in the 62nd minute, Herman Wasswa added the fourth in a space of one minute before Jackson Semugabi closed business with ten minutes to go.

Kitara and Mbarara City, who lead with 55 and 54 points, need just a win to seal their promotion but NEC and Police will have to take their fight to the last minute.

NEC play Kyetume and Kataka in the remaining games while the Cops have Booma and Jinja North United.
