This put him on the radar of a number of top clubs, including Liverpool, who asked about him last summer. However, while the Atalanta leadership were able to fend off suitors months ago, the days of the Brazilian at the club could be numbered, as Manchester City have identified him as a key target.
The details
The Cityzens took a major hit with Rodri’s injury earlier in the season, and it coincided with their worst run of results since the start of the Pep Guardiola era.
As Pulse Sports reported, the Manchester City hierarchy released a €100 million war chest to Guardiola to use as he sees fit in the January transfer window, and given their results, he is expected to spend some or all of that money.
A defensive midfielder is the most pressing need, and according to Caught Offside, they have identified Ederson as the ideal candidate. However, they will have to pay above Atalanta's €60 million valuation to convince the Serie A leaders to release their prized asset mid-season.
Atalanta president, Antonio Percassi, in referring to Ademola Lookman, stated recently that they plan to make no sales in January. It remains to be seen if Manchester City can price them out of that stance.
