Highly versed central defender Latif Kiyemba is the latest signing at FUFA Big League side Lugazi FC, having joined their ranks on a two-year contract.

Kiyemba joins the heavy spenders from Uganda Premier League side Gadaffi FC and has vast experience.

“It is an extraordinary moment for me and at this stage of my career,” Kiyemba stated in his first interview with the club.

“Lugazi is a top side, and knowing the ambition behind the team, it was easy for me to make up my mind and settle for the club.”

“I am here to make history for the club and give the fans good moments they will cherish. I have already seen the players, and it is an excellent squad that is ready and hungry to compete,” he added.

His stay at Gadaffi was short-lived, as he only joined them in January, albeit contributing to five clean sheets in the seven games he played.

Before his stint with Gadaffi, Kiyemba enjoyed a spell at Kyetume FC, guiding them to promotion back to the Uganda Premier League in 2022.

He has also previously featured for Mbarara City FC in the Uganda Premier League and Lungujja Galaxy in the Third Division.

The club has made over ten signings, including Samuel Ssemugugu, Freedom Mungudit, Ronald Ssempala and Alvin Birungi.

They have also acquired James Okiror, Abraham Opio, Solomon Okodi, Mubarak Mitala, Andrew Odong and Samuel Nsubuga.

Last season in the Big League, Lugazi finished a respectable fifth, having garnered 44 points in 30 games, and feels topflight football is an achievable target next campaign.
