The Paris Saint-Germain head coach maintained that there was no bad energy between Mbappe and the club, but was convinced that they would be stronger without the Frenchman
In his first press conference since Kylian Mbappe's departure announcement from Paris Saint-Germain, manager Luis Enrique dispelled any notion of despair or desperation on the path of the French giants as they lose the star forward.
Despite the impending loss of their record goal scorer, Enrique emphasised that the team's focus remains unchanged and that the players will be stronger next season after Mbappe’s exit.
Luis Enrique anticipates stronger PSG
Reflecting on Mbappe's imminent exit, Enrique acknowledged that the club had long been aware of the situation and affirmed that his managerial decisions have always been based on what he deemed best for the team, saying, "We have known this for a long time, as did everyone else. It doesn’t change the general picture. All my decisions were made based on what I considered best for the team.”
He also stated that things would continue as usual with PSG, continued pursuit of success and expressed confidence in the squad's ability to strengthen despite Mbappe’s departure, saying, “There is still the Coupe de France to go for, that’s our goal. I’m convinced that the players will be stronger next season."
Luis Enrique expresses gratitude towards Mbappe
While bidding farewell to Mbappe, Enrique also conveyed his appreciation for the PSG legend’s contributions to PSG over the past seven years, praising Mbappe's leadership qualities and commitment to the club.
Luis Enrique remarked, “All I can say is good things about Mbappe and his brother. I understand his decision, he spent seven years here, and he’s a club legend.
“He gave everything for PSG. He hasn’t said where he’s going yet, even though we think it’s clear. He’s a leader, with a smile.”
Mbappe’s announcement confirmed rumours that have swirled over time about his departure from PSG, but only hinted at his next destination as the Frenchman’s next club remains the subject of rumours.
