FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo has rallied the government to extend tax waivers to investors developing sports and its equipment.

Magogo said that the move will speed up the development of infrastructure ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania are set to host

The politician who represents Budiope East constituency presented the motion at parliament on Wednesday.

He urged the government to borrow a leaf from the incentives it extended to investors in the build-up to the famous Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting held in 2007.

“When we hosted CHOGM, there were certain tax waivers that were done to ensure that the facilities are availed,” Magogo reminded government.

He urged: “This is the moment we feel that the equipment for sports and also the private investors who are investing in sports facilities [to benefit from such gestures] by waiving some of these taxes.

Magogo also told the government to use football and sports, especially the 2027 AFCON, to fast-track the process towards the full integration of the East Africa Federation.

“This is also the opportunity for us to use football and sports to make sure that we have the full integration of the East African community,” he added.
