Moses Hashim Magogo, the President of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA), has lost his seat on the CAF Executive committee.

The assembly took place in Cotonou, Ivory Coast, on Thursday.

Magogo conceded defeat to Sudan Football Association President, Dr. Mutasim Gafar Sirelkhatim after a vote at the 45th CAF Ordinary General Assembly.

The election, which determined the representative of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) region on the executive committee until 2027, concluded with Magogo securing 20 votes to Mutasim's 34.

Over the past five years, Magogo has been a vital part of the CAF's executive committee, representing the CECAFA region for the term 2019-2023.

Magogo was graceful in defeat, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to have served as a CAF Executive Member, being the first and only Ugandan to do so.

He acknowledged his defeat in a post on Twitter, “Allah has been good to me to be the first and only Ugandan with the opportunity to serve as CAF Executive Member.”

“I concede election losing 34/20 to Sudan FA President Dr. Mutasim and I duly congratulate him.”

“I will continue to serve football at Kampala Queens, FUFA, CAF and FIFA. I thank the colleague 20 FA Presidents who voted for me,” the post added.

He was first elected to the committee in 2019, during an assembly in Cairo, Egypt, beating Tanzanian administrator Leodgar Tenga by 33 to 19 votes.

Magogo's journey to this prestigious position started back in March 2017, when he first ran for the continental post.

Competing against Djibouti’s Sulaiman Waberi among others, Magogo came fourth out of four contestants.

Despite polling only seven votes – 13 short of Waberi's count – he was given an opportunity to join the executive committee by the then newly-elected CAF President Ahmad Ahmad.

Mutassim can be remembered for the controversial manner in which he beat former FUFA president and Vipers director Lawrence Mulindwa to the CECAFA presidency in November 2021.

Mutassim emerged the victor with six out of the ten votes to beat both Mulindwa, who garnered three and former Rwandan football boss Vincent Nzamwita who polled one.
