It should be noted that the rivalry between Kyambogo and Makerere goes years back over pride and prestige, and games between the two almost always end with violence.

The 2023/24 Pepsi University Football League is set for strain and taut after Makerere University and primary antagonists Kyambogo University were pooled in the same group.

The 2023/24 Pepsi University Football League season groups were held on Monday at the Kati Kati Restaurant, Lugogo.

Makerere, who won the inaugural title in 2012, and 2018 champions Kyambogo have been placed in Group C, along with Muni University and Ndejje University.

It should be noted that the rivalry between Kyambogo and Makerere goes years back over pride and prestige, and games between the two almost always end with violence.

The two have in the past been locked in abuses, jibes and fights, and the organizers have taken them to neutral grounds at some point in history.

Meanwhile, the 11th season will align with the university academic calendar from September to May.

UFL organizing committee Chairman Vincent Kisenyi has revealed that the first round will be held between September and November 2023, while the second round will be between February and May 2024.

"I am excited to announce the resumption of the league and that starting this season, we shall be running from September to May rather than February to November as has been the case."

"This enables the league to run in alignment with the university calendar, which also runs from September to May," Kisenyi added.

To add, the number of teams in this season's league has been elevated from 22 to 23 this season, with ISBAT University coming on board.

League matches are scheduled to kick off on Tuesday, 12th September, with defending champions Uganda Martyrs University hosting Bugema University.
