Pep Guardiola has opened up on his supposed feud with Kevin De Bruyne during the Champions League thrashing of Real Madrid.

Pep Guardiola and star player Kevin De Bruyne had some heated exchanges during Manchester City’s 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid at the Etihad.

City were magnificent in the night and De Bruyne played a major part in midfield in his team’s dominant display over the defending champions.

However the 5-1 aggregate scoreline came with bashing between the Spanish midfielder and the Belgian playmaker during the game.

What happened between Pep and De Bruyne

There was a moment De Bruyne lost the ball and Guardiola lost his cool in the technical area as he was barking orders on the Belgian midfielder while the score was 2-0.

As the camera panned towards De Bruyne, he was seen screaming ‘shut up’, ‘shut up’, at his manager after losing the ball.

Guardiola was asked during the post-march interview to give his own version of the story by Spanish news media outlet Movistar and he said:

"At 2-0 we rushed a lot.

"Right after the break [Ilkay] Gundogan lost a ball, Kevin made three transitions that weren’t necessary and we rushed a lot when we had to do the opposite, sink them and turn them, sink them and turn them.

"But it’s normal. It gets close, you rush, and it has cost us more, although in general we have had an extraordinary game."

Guardiola’s incredible season in summary

City are just three wins away in all competitions to winning the treble including the Premier League, Champions League and the FA Cup.

Guardiola is close to equaling the record set by Sir Alex Ferguson who won the treble in the 1998-99 season, winning all three trophies with Manchester United.

The Citizens will be going into the weekend to play against Chelsea which could hand them the league title if they record a win at the Etihad.

The point of call for City will be the FA Cup final clash against United on June 2, before heading to Istanbul to face Inter Milan in the Champions League final
