Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson addressed the recent rumours surrounding him.

Manchester City's first-choice goalkeeper, Ederson, has come out to address the rumours surrounding his exit and alleged ill feelings towards his understudy, Stefan Ortega.

What happened

The Brazil international became Manchester City’s first-choice goalkeeper since the 2017/18 season when he joined from Portuguese side Benfica.

His deputy, Stefan Ortega, had to get between the sticks in the penultimate game of last season, against Tottenham, after Ederson was forced off due to injury.

Ortega had a brilliant performance, heroically preventing Heung Min Son from scoring a goal that could have dashed Manchester City’s title ambitions. Ortega received immense praise for display, and according to a report from the Athletic, the plaudits the German goalkeeper got were received negatively by Ederson, and it has fuelled his alleged desire to leave the club, with Saudi Arabia big spender’s Al-Ittihad on the prowl.

What Ederson said

The 30-year-old shot-stopper took to Instagram to address the report, dismissing it as false.

"I would like to clarify that the note published by The Athletic yesterday, referring to my alleged dissatisfaction with a co-worker, is completely false,” Ederson said.

"The alleged day reported was, without a doubt, one of the most difficult days of my career, when I suffered a fracture that prevented me from playing in the final stretch of the season and, consequently, from representing my country in the Copa América.

"At the time of the injury, my only thought was to continue in the match, defending City in the fight for the title we had won, but the emotion of the match would be greater than the reality and, inevitably, I would not be able to continue as I would have liked due to the damage it caused, completely blocking my field of vision. I remain focused on preparing for the season."

Meanwhile, Premier League giants Manchester City are keen to hold on to their prized asset, Julian Alvarez, despite strong interest from LaLiga.
