FOOTBALL Cameroon issue injury update on Manchester United's goalkeeper Andre Onana
Cameroon's goalkeeper Andre Onana faces an uncertain return due to an injury that is impacting both the national team and Manchester United.
Onana shows class
The Cameroonian goalkeeper has come under heavy criticism from fans and pundits after a shaky start to life at Manchester United.
Onana joined the Red Devils in the summer as a replacement for club legend David De Gea from Italian club Inter Milan.
United paid more than 47 million pounds for the former Ajax goalkeeper to be reunited with his former boss at the Dutch club, Erik Ten Hag.
But Onana’s journey at Old Trafford started on a shaky note following a run of poor results that saw him concede over 30 goals in his first 15 matches for the club.
United’s Onana reigns
But according to Whoscored, the 24-year-old has now been named the highest-rated shot-stopper in the Premier League after his latest performance.
Onana was in goal as the Red Devils defeated Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park to register their fifth win in the last six matches in the league.
The Cameroonian has kept five clean sheets in 13 matches for United, no PL goalkeeper has more so far this season.
He has also made some smart saves, with his save percentage at 76.1, with Alisson Becker the only goalkeeper with a better rate.
These stats combine to give him an overall rating of 6.96, the highest in the Premier League per Whoscored.
Tottenham’s Gugliemo Vicario is second with 6.92 while Becker completes the top three with a rating of 6.84.
Onana’s emergence as the highest-rated could come as a surprise to his critics, but it is a major boost for him and United, who have now kept a clean sheet in each of the last three matches in the PL.
Here are some Onana’s key stats this season in the Premier League;
- Clean sheets - 5
- Save percentage - 76.1
- Saves per 90 - 3.9
- Goals prevented - 2.7
- Goals conceded - 16
