And, while Ten Hag didn't question the penalty, he particularly criticized the general officiation of Marriner, especially the freekick that brought the corner.

"The annoying thing is the freekick before is never a freekick and I have seen really bad tackles today, sometimes without whistles as well," Ten Hag said after the game.

"Every attack you make with perspective they kick you and then it's a block but a fair block, it's a freekick, it's a corner."

"It's not about me to give a judgment about the referee. We lost this game, we made a mistake in the end, we did not take our chances, but as I said there are some disappointments."

Before the goal, both teams had big chances to break the deadlock, and the wastefulness left Ten Hag frustrated as his side couldn't convert.

"We created good chances, we were not clinical enough, the. in the attack after we concede a big chance by a giveaway, a ball in the head of David (De Gea).”

"In the end we gave away the goal. It's annoying because if you can't win because you don't finish your opportunities, then don't lose."

The defeat left Man United fourth with 63 points, five games to the end of the campaign. They are only four points ahead of Liverpool who lie waiting in fifth.
