Fernandes insisted Andre Onana will be a great asset for Ten Hag’s side, describing him as “a great goalkeeper”.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has jumped to the defence of Andre Onana, claiming “he hasn’t to take any blame” despite a less than convincing performance that saw him concede comical goals during their 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.
Fernandes insisted the Cameroonian custodian would be a great asset for Ten Hag’s side, describing him as “a great goalkeeper”.
The Ballon d’Or nominee has been less than convincing since completing a move to Old Trafford from Inter Milan in the summer, and Fernandes has insisted that the club should take the blame “as a team”.

FOOTBALL Why Michael Olunga should not be judged on goals alone despite Harambee Stars drought
Michael Olunga has faced criticism from a section of Kenyan fans over his lack of goals for Harambee Stars but he brings much more to the side
“Andre is a great goalkeeper. He will keep giving us a lot of points, a lot of saves. He hasn't to take any blame. We have to take the blame as a team. We're going to go through this moment together because we are strong as a team.”
Onana himself took full responsibility for his mistakes, saying he “let the team down.”
“ It's a difficult situation for me, I let the team down. It's because of me we didn't win this game,’ said Onana who insisted on facing the media after United’s Group A defeat.
“ We started very well and after my mistake we lost control of the game. I still have a lot to prove (to the fans). My start hasn't been so good, not how I wanted.

FOOTBALL Harambee Stars drop in latest FIFA Rankings despite recent win over Qatar
Kenya's national men's soccer team, the Harambee Stars, has fallen in the latest FIFA World Rankings.
“ They hadn't created any chances, their first shot on target I made the mistake and the team went down. We fought until the end but I have to recognise that we didn't win because of me.
“But it’s the life of a goalkeeper and we have to move on. It’s a tough time and we have to be together and learn from our mistake.”
Meanwhile, with Antony and Jadon Sancho unavailable, Fernandes was encouraged by the contribution from 21-year-old Facundo Pellistri after the Uruguayan winger made his first start of the season for United.
Fernandes said: “Pellistri is one of the players that deserves his chances. He deserves a lot of credit for everything he’s been through and everything he has done for the team.
“He’s always available, he’s someone that's always training hard, he’s someone that deserves his chances and he did well.
“He did the job that the manager asked him to do and we are all happy for him because he really deserves to get his chances.”
