The Brazilan youngster becomes Manchester City's first signing of the season after joining from Troyes
Premier League champions Manchester City have announced the signing of ex-Girona star Savio from Troyes, another team in the City Football Group.
Savio joins Manchester City
The 20-year-old Brazilian took LaLiga by storm last season with a string of excellent performances for Girona, helping them finish third, and that has now officially earned him a move to the Premier League giants.
The young Brazilian has signed a five-year deal, and the expectation is that he will remain with Pep Guardiola’s squad for the upcoming 2024-25 season at the very least.
Girona had hoped to re-sign Savio for their inaugural season as a Champions League club, but those chances have now been put to bed – not because of Man City’s intention to keep the Brazilian attacker, but because of their affiliation with the Premier League giants.
UEFA rules preventing Savio from re-joining Girona
UEFA rules forbid any transfer activity taking place between Girona and Manchester City this season due to the clubs’ shared City Football Group ownership. This restriction means that Girona cannot re-sign Savio, nor can they bring back Yan Couto, another integral member of Michel Sanchez’s squad during the 2023-24 campaign.
Savio joins an elite Manchester City attack that already boasts Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, and Jeremy Doku.
The Brazilian will face an uphill battle to make his mark in Manchester given the quality of competition he has, but will back himself to do just that considering his impressive campaign with Girona last season.
