City now move within three points of the Gunners, who are in action on Sunday.

Manchester City were lucky to come out 3-1 winners over Leicester City in a Premier League contest at the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens were dominant in the first half, but in the second half, the Foxes were more ambitious and were unlucky not to claim at least a point.

John Stones and Erling Haaland’s first-half goals were enough for Pep Guardiola’s side to collect three points, while Leicester scored through Kelechi Iheanacho.

Meanwhile, City started with a commanding tone and needed just five minutes to break the deadlock with an unlikely scorer.

Leicester half-cleared a corner, and Rodri kept the ball alive after winning a 50-50 challenge. The ball dropped to Stones from 22 yards, and he struck it powerfully into the top corner.

City’s appeal for a ninth-minute penalty was denied after Wout Faes went back off Jack Grealish right on the line of the box. The referee ordered a corner, judging that Faes had the ball, and after a VAR check, the referee’s decision was upheld.

However, in the 11th minute, City got a penalty after a handball by Wilfred Ndidi. Although the referee had ruled that there was no penalty, after the VAR analysis, he pointed to the spot. Haaland successfully converted the spot kick for goal number 31 in the Premier League.

The Norwegian scored his second of the game in the 25th minute from a Kevin De Bruyne assist. The Belgian went through a bad challenge from Ndidi before he spotted a forward-running Haaland, who then managed to score with a far corner finish.

This was his 32nd goal in the league and 47th in all competitions.

Leicester denied City a clean sheet when Nigerian international Iheanacho scored in the 75th minute. James Madison found Harry Souttar in the middle, and his header hit the target. Ederson did not manage to deal with that and gave Iheanacho a chance to poke home.

The Super Eagle almost got his second against his former side in the 79th minute. From 18 yards – after a nice change of pace – he smacked a poor effort into the stands, although he had the option of passing to Madison, who was in space to his right.

In the dying minutes, Leicester were more determined to fight back and, in the 87th minute, were denied a close penalty call. Caglar Soyuncu thundered in at the back post and delivered a powerful header that looked to have hit Sergio Gomez’s hand.

VAR took a look and stuck with the referee’s on-field call that had dismissed the penalty appeal from the Foxes.

Leicester were unlucky again, as they hit the post in the first minute of added time. Maddison curled a perfect cross from the middle, Iheanacho waited from some yards, but his low finish bounced back off the post.
