The Red Devils are now third with 59 points, three ahead of close rivals Newcastle United.

Manchester United boosted their chances of finishing in the top four by beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Sunday.

Antony and Diogo Dalot scored the goals for the Red Devils, who were dominant for the better part of the showdown. The second goal by Dalot is the first goal for the Portuguese in the Premier League for his club.

Meanwhile, United had a huge moment to grab an opener in the 18th minute after a combination of Antony and Bruno Fernandes.

Antony was released into the area, and he crossed the ball to Fernandes, who drilled an effort towards goal, but Keylor Navas was alert and made a fingertip save.

United were under pressure and in the 26th minute survived when the ball hit the post. Scott McKenna put Harry Maguire under pressure, and the replays showed that the ball deflected off United’s captain.

The ball may have hit an arm of the Forest defender and could not have counted after all. However, the fact remained that United survived after being put under immense pressure.

The visitors grabbed a lead in the 32nd minute through Antony after a period of considerable dominance. Antony dispossessed Danilo and sent it to Fernandes, and after beating the Forest defense, he laid the ball on the path of Anthony Martial to go through on goal.

Although Navas’ superb goal denied Martial, Antony was available to score from the rebound.

Forest got an open goal scoring opportunity in the 52nd minute after Taiwo Awoniyi got the better of Maguire. Despite heavy touches giving the ball back to United, Forest remained in touch as Neco Williams stood up across from where Awoniyi attacked, but the Nigerian only glanced his effort wide off the target.

Fernandes almost grabbed the second for the Red Devils in the 56th minute. After receiving a ball back from Christian Eriksen, the Portuguese launched a thunderous shot that Navas tipped onto the bar.

A close chance for United came again in the 71st minute when Casemiro swung a nice cross from the right to Martial, but the Frenchman, while unmarked, steered his header wide.

Navas made another huge save for Forest to help prevent a goal. Antony drove into the area and drilled to the far corner, but Navas parried it away in the 74th minute.

After surviving on a number of occasions, especially thanks to Navas’ saves, Forest finally conceded the second in the 79th minute. Although Antony took too long on the ball, he released Wout Weghorst through on goal, but the Dutchman preferred to send it to Diogo Dalot, who slotted past Navas.
