Manchester United lose at West Ham after De Gea error
Manchester United failed to pick up any points at West Ham after a David De Gea error ensured that the Hammers carted away all the points thanks to a Said Benrahma effort midway through the first half.
The loss meant that the Red Devils’ qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League was put in jeopardy, while West Ham took a huge step towards remaining in the Premier League next season despite their ongoing struggles.
The defeat also meant that Manchester United fell to an unwanted record after losing yet another away game in the current Premier League campaign.
Manchester United reach record lows against West Ham
Manchester United’s loss to West Ham highlighted their frailty in the month of May as well as in away fixtures this season, giving coach Erik Ten Hag more things to consider in his approach for the rest of this season as well as next season.
The loss was the Red Devils' fourth consecutive defeat in the month of May, as they also failed to score in a fourth straight fixture in the bogey month.
It was also Manchester United’s eighth away defeat in the 2022/23 campaign, which represents their joint-most defeats away from home in a single Premier League season, equalling the eight away defeats in the 2021/22 and 2015/16 seasons.
