Manchester United have issued a statement on Greenwood who is still suspended by the club

Manchester United have issued a club statement after news broke that their 21-year-old forward, Mason Greenwood had been cleared of all charges in a case of alleged attempted rape, sexual assault, and coercive control.

Greenwood had been the subject of more than a year of investigations after his then-girlfriend against him made claims.

Mason Greenwood cleared of all charges

The English striker was due to face trial in November 2023, but in a dramatic twist of events has had all the charges against him dropped.

This latest development followed the withdrawal of crucial witnesses to the case as well as the emergence of new evidence that The Crown Prosecution believed left the case without “a realistic prospect of conviction.”

Greenwood is now free to continue his career at Manchester United

Manchester United have now issued a statement to that effect noting The Crown Prosecution’s position on the issue and the latest developments, while also stating that they will be making their own findings, and acting in accordance with that.

The full statement read: “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.

“The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”

What now for Mason Greenwood?

Greenwood has remained suspended by the club since his arrest in January, although he has still been paid his due salary throughout the course of the investigations, totalling up to £75,000 a week.

The forward also suffered the ignominy of being removed from the Football games franchises FIFA and Football Manager, and also saw his contract with sporting apparel manufacturers Nike terminated when the allegations surfaced.

Greenwood has been part of Manchester United since he was six years old and rose through the ranks at Old Trafford before becoming the youngest player to play for Manchester United in the Champions League in 2019

He played a total of 129 games for Manchester United before the scandal began and it is unclear at this time if he will play anymore.
