Despite struggles in the league and Champions League last season, Manchester United's Erik Ten Hag is set for a salary hike

Erik ten Hag is on the verge of signing a new two-year contract with Manchester United worth approximately £27 million (₦52 billion). This new deal will extend his tenure at the club until 2027.

Ten Hag to get salary hike

The 54-year-old Dutch manager, who had one year remaining on his existing £9 million-a-year contract, has agreed in principle to the extension. The final terms are being finalized and the contract is expected to be confirmed this week according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

With a new annual salary of £13.5 million, Ten Hag will become the second-highest-paid manager in the Premier League, behind Manchester City's Pep Guardiola, who earns £19.92 million per year.

The new contract also includes plans for a shake-up of United's coaching staff, with former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy billed to return to the club as part of Ten Hag's backroom team.

Ten Hag survives Manchester United inquiry

Ten Hag's future at United was uncertain for two-and-a-half weeks following their FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his football executive team conducted an end-of-season review, considering potential successors, including Thomas Tuchel.

However, after nearly three weeks of deliberation, United decided to stick with Ten Hag and assured him of his job security with the promise of a new contract while he was on holiday in Ibiza

Manchester United will return for pre-season training on July 8, with their first pre-season game against Rosenborg in Trondheim on July 15. The team will then travel to Edinburgh to face Rangers at Murrayfield on July 20. Following that, Ten Hag and his squad will head to the United States to play Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool as part of their summer tour ahead of the 2024/25 season.
