Mathare United now require just one point from their next three games to return to the FKF Premier League after winning an appeal against their National Super League rivals.
Former Kenyan Premier League champions Mathare United now need just a draw to earn an instant return to the top flight after being awarded two points as a result of an appeal.
Mathare were successful in their appeal against Rainbow FC when they lodged a complaint to the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee that their National Super League rivals had two ineligible members of their technical bench in the dugout during the two sides’ clash on May 26, 2024.
Rainbow had Technical Director Stanley Okumbi and goalkeeper coach Caleb Otieno on the bench even after they were sent off in their previous match against Mara Sugar over misconduct.

Mara Sugar earn maiden FKF Premier League promotion after downing Silibwet
Mathare United, Naivas, and Nairobi United are trailing Mara Sugar who have secured Premier League promotion with a 4-0 win.
However, Rainbow denied the allegations, claiming it was the club’s driver and kit manager who were sent off, but the Leagues and Competitions Committee had enough evidence to prove otherwise.
The committee reached a conclusion that Rainbow had breached rules governing the ineligibility period of players or club officials sent off in matches, and as a result, they were adjudged to have automatically forfeited the match, with Mathare United awarded three points and a 2-0 win.
“You are reminded of the importance of maintaining accurate records of cards and other match statistics to prevent future discrepancies and ensure compliance with FKF regulations,” a letter by the Head of Leagues and Competitions Committee Doreen Nabwire read, as quoted by Mozzart Sport.

The contentious match had ended goalless but with the extra two points, Mathare now need just one more from their next three matches, to return to the FKF Premier League following their relegation last year.
The Slum Boys will join Mara Sugar in earning automatic top-flight promotion after the latter clinched their ticket last week.
