Tegisi equalised for Shabana in stoppage time to deny Gor Mahia from getting all the three points in Machakos on Wednesday.

Mathew Tegisi was the hero as rejuvenated Shabana sank Gor Mahia hearts to salvage a 1-1 draw against the record FKFPL champions in a league clash that took place at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Wednesday afternoon.

Tegisi’s last gasp equaliser left Shabana fans ecstatic, while Gor Mahia fans were left in despair, especially after losing their previous league clash to Bidco United at the same venue last Sunday.

The result now means that Gor Mahia are fourth on 18 points, although with one game in hand, while Shabana are eighth on 17 points.

After a first half that was largely uneventful with nothing meaningful to report about, the game sprang into life in the second half.

Gor Mahia took the lead in the 47th minute through Chris Ochieng, who capitalised on a well-executed throw-in from Samuel Kapen to send the fans into raptures . Despite their early advantage, Gor Mahia struggled to extend their lead, with Shabana creating several chances as the match progressed.

The 65th minute saw Ronney Onyango narrowly miss a chance to double Gor’s lead, with his shot skimming just wide. Three minutes later, Shabana’s Shariff squandered an opportunity to level the scores, missing from close range.

As the clock ticked into added time, Gor Mahia were reduced to 10 men when Ghananian Enoch Morrison received his second yellow card in the 90+2nd minute.

Shabana capitalized on the numerical advantage, and in the dying moments of the match, Mathew Tegisi emerged as the hero, firing home a dramatic equalizer to send Shabana fans into rapturous celebrations.
