Former KCCA FC and Uganda Cranes forward Jackson Mayanja enjoyed a victorious return to Rwanda.

Recently appointed as the head coach of Sunrise FC, Mayanja launched his tenure with a win against his previous club, AS Kigali.

Sunrise FC clinched the victory on the road on Sunday, with Mayanja's fellow countryman, Yafesi Mubiru, netting the game's lone goal in the 70th minute.

Mayanja's earlier experience in the Rwanda Premier League saw him serve as an assistant at AS Kigali under head coach Mike Mutebi. Their tenure was cut short after 85 days in April 2022.

Post-Kigali, Mayanja took the reins at his childhood club, KCCA, during the closing part of the 2022/23 season, stepping in after Morley Byekwaso's departure.

Despite Sunrise FC's current position at the bottom of the 16-team league with nine points from nine games, Mayanja's influence seems to be heralding a turn of fortunes.

Looking ahead, Mayanja will have his first managerial encounter in front of the Sunrise home supporters on Saturday, November 11, as they square off against Kiyovu.
