On Friday afternoon, the Bugolobi-based side managed a 1-0 win over fellow new entrants Mbarara City at Kakyeeka Stadium.

Newly promoted league side NEC FC are enjoying a brilliant start to their top-flight campaign.

On Friday afternoon, the Bugolobi-based side managed a 1-0 win over fellow new entrants Mbarara City at Kakyeeka Stadium.

Head coach Hussein Mbalangu has credited his team’s resilience, which earned them the maximum points on their first league outing of the new campaign.

“It was a tough game; it’s always tough playing away in Mbarara, but the team’s resilience saved the day; we kept in the game, especially after we scored, so credit to the boys,” Mbalangu stated in the post-match presser.

New signing and South Sudanese international right-back Joseph Stephen Dhata scored the all-important goal six minutes into the second half, bundling home a poorly defended set piece by the hosts.

The win was one of three other results on Match Day one, with BUL FC winning away in Kavumba against Soltilo Bright Stars, while the shocking result of the day saw Kitara FC shock SC Villa with Brian Ssenyondo’s side claiming a 2-1 win at the death.

The league continues on Sunday with Wakiso Giants FC taking on Maroons FC while defending champions Vipers SC will begin their title defence away to Gaddafi FC.

UPDF FC hosting URA FC in Bombo and Arua Hill taking on Busoga United in Packwach are the two other games on the day.
