The first round of the BetPawa Big League is edging towards its climax, with teams beginning to show their strength, especially on the top end of the table.
Mbale Heroes FC entered the race for promotion to the Uganda Premier League next season with a 1-0 win over Blacks Power FC at Mbale Municipal Stadium on Sunday.
Herbert Kibirango netted a 25th-minute goal, which proved vital for the hosts, taking them to 20 points in the fourth position level with third-placed Blacks Power, who have a better goal difference but have also played a game more.
After 11 games, Mbale is among the three teams that have lost just one game; the others are table leaders Police FC and second-placed Lugazi FC.
The Cops maintained their two-point lead over Lugazi with a 3-1 victory against Kiyinda Boys FC at Kavumba Recreation Center.

Reagan Male restored the Cops’ lead in the 78th minute before Emmanuel Mugume sealed it in the 96th minute.
Meanwhile, Lugazi left it late in a 2-1 win over Kigezi Home Boyz FC in Lugazi, and they are still going toe to toe with Police.
