Ochieng’ was primarily signed as a replacement for Patrick Kaddu, who is out for a whole season with an injury, in order to complement Benson Omala.

Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has revealed the reason off-season signing Chris Ochieng does not feature very regularly for his side since signing from Bidco United barely a month after he had joined them from Bandari.

Ochieng’ came on as a 70th minute substitute to partner Benson Omala upfront, but was not able to help change the scoreline as K’Ogalo were frustrated to a 0-0 draw by the Thika-based outfit at the Kasarani Stadium last Saturday.

He did, however, get a few chances to score, with one big opportunity he tried to take going just wide 10 minutes after he was subbed on.

The poacher was signed as a replacement for Patrick Kaddu, who is out for the whole season after he suffered a setback by breaking his leg which left the technical bench with no choice but to ask for a stop-gap replacement for him in efforts to compliment the main man Benson Omala.

“I thought he did well, obviously, 4-4-2 is not our most natural shape but I thought he did well, won some few balls in the air and was unlucky with that one shot he hit on the near post,” McKinstry said.

“Chris has a great shot on them. It goes wide and some people might think that he should have passed that, but knowing how good he is in those situations but knowing how good he is at shooting when he has those yards of space, you fully want him to take advantage of it.

“But I thought he combined well. Look, we created some stuff, I thought we created a lot in the last 20 minutes than we did in the rest of the game but the shift in formation and having him up top to partner Benson Omala created a lot more but still, our ball possession was not good."
