The Northern-Irish tactician revealed that his players played well and got a deserved three points after withstanding slippery conditions that essentially prevented the game from finding any sort of rhythm.
Gor Mahia head coach Jonathan McKinstry says he is pleased with the performance his team displayed against Kenya Police despite tough playing conditions during their 1-0 win over Kenya Police at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.
Midfielder Austin Odhiambo scored the lone goal, which put the Green Army back in top place on 56 points after Nzoia Sugar upset Tusker FC at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.
Speaking in the aftermath of the game, the Northern-Irish tactician revealed that his players played well and got a deserved three points after withstanding slippery conditions that essentially prevented the game from finding any sort of rhythm.
“The game went the way we expected it to go,” he said. "The big factor that confused things was the heavy rain and having that amount of water on the pitch made it difficult for both teams,” he said.
“Both sets of players are obviously shattered after that game as a result. I thought we coped well. I told my players we are the better team at half time but we still needed all three points.

FKFPL Gor Mahia show who the real 'sirkal' is with derby win over Kenya Police
Gor Mahia hold off Police's second half pressure to win 1-0
“ It was a close game in the end, but we had to defend because Police threw everything at us. We went to three at the back. It shows you the depth of the squad because we were able to bring Sylvester Owino off the bench for the last 5–10 minutes of the game.
“The guys put their bodies on the line, which makes me very happy. We have to ensure we do the same against FC Talanta on Wednesday.”
With a title race as tight as this season’s, with Tusker, KCB, and Nzoia Sugar also contesting for the title, Gor Mahia will be hoping they can grab all three points next Wednesday against Talanta.
