Chris Ochieng’s shot from outside the box was enough to give Gor Mahia all the three points in the very last minute but coach Johnathan McKinstry is not happy
Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has expressed frustration about one of his side’s unwanted tendencies against Kariobangi Sharks despite beating them 1-0 to maintain their place at the top of the table on Saturday.
K’ogalo needed a last-gasp goal by substitute Chris Ochieng to give them all the three points and keep them top of the table on 40 points after 18 games.
Speaking to the media after the match, McKinstry has revealed how far from pleased he was with his side’s lack of penetration in the first half which prompted him into making changes that would speed up the play.

FKFPL Gor Mahia reveal Benson Omala's price tag amid interest from USM Alger
Gor Mahia are seeking a substantial fee for star striker Benson Omala amid interest from USM Alger and other prominent clubs.
“For the last 15 minutes of the second half, I really was not happy with the change that the guys were doing,” McKinstry said.
“We had some serious words at halftime that if we pass sidewards, it gives Sharks oxygen and allows them to come and press us and it took us maybe five or 10 minutes of the second half to get out of that.
“We made a few changes, we obviously brought in Chris Ochieng, Boniface Omondi and (Earnest) Wendo in and I thought with that, we started playing a bit more, we started finding Boni on the left, we stared finding Rooney on the right with some switches and I think in the last 25 minutes, we were on top of the game and we were really pressing and forcing Sharks to play long balls which they do not like to do.”

FKFPL Chris Ochieng's last-gasp goal inspires Gor Mahia to victory against spirited Kariobangi Sharks
Gor Mahia needed a stoppage-time goal by Chris Ochieng' to get all three points against Sharks as they ended the first leg unbeaten.
McKinstry has revealed, however, that he has been pleased by his boys’ willingness to start taking more shots from outside the box considering a couple of their recent goals have been from such situations, including Ochieng’s winner.
“It is just about keeping that pressure on. We want our players to take more shots, we preached that to them.
“If you look at Chris Ochieng’s goal, it is a great goal and we do not take those shots, if you take that pass on the edge of the box, you try to dribble, then you can never see those type of goals but we have seen in recent weeks, you know Lawrence Juma scored from outside the box, we have obviously seen today’s goal from outside the box, there has been a few others.
“We have got to be willing to have the shots.”
