The game was overshadowed by controversial refereeing decisions that led to all hell breaking loose at full time.

Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has slammed the standard of officiating during his side’s 0-0 draw with Murang’a Seal that ended up in chaos at full time at the Kasarani Stadium on Saturday evening.

The game was overshadowed by controversial refereeing decisions that led to all hell breaking loose at full time. Chaos was so bad, there was significant damage caused on sections of the stadium, with seats uprooted and the electric meter box getting destroyed.

Speaking after the match, McKinstry expressed frustration at the fact Gor were not able to convert the chances they created, but even more on the officiating on the afternoon.

“We are frustrated that we were not able to convert what at times, really good play, and you felt that energy,” McKinstry said after the game.

“The crowd appreciated it as well because you felt that energy coming back from the crowd at some of our passes of play but we just were not able to get it over the line.

“It is very unfortunate at the end here but look, even the fourth official spoke to me and said that it was an awful refereeing performance from the center referee. The fourth official said to me ‘coach, I know he has been awful today’.

“The match commissioner will have noticed it all, and it is not that it was just for Gor Mahia. If you remember in the first half, I think it was Boniface Omondi who took a throw in  where we were standing and it slipped out of his hands and then he went in and dribbled it and no one else had touched the ball.

“You are not allowed to do that, you are not allowed to throw the ball to yourself. At the end, the foul on Rooney Onyango raced through. I thought for Both teams, the referee just was not giving fouls.

“It was remarkable really and we spoke to the fourth official at half time and he told me ‘We are going to have a word with him and tell him to get serious’, but it did not improve in the second half.”

Gor Mahia remain second on 21 points, one behind league leaders Posta Rangers heading into the international break, while Murang’a Seal are third, level on points but with an inferior goal difference to the defending champions.
