FKFPL Michael Oduor returns to haunt KCB as Tusker maintain pressure on Gor Mahia

The former KCB midfielder scored the lone goal of the game.

Michael Oduor was the hero as Tusker FC managed to win the first of two back-to-back meetings with KCB, beating the Bankers 1-0.

The Brewers hosted KCB at the Ruaraka Grounds with plenty at stake, as both sides contested for the league title with eight games of the season left to play.

The game was understandably very even between both sides in the opening 10 minutes, with no side managing to create any real inroads in the each others' final-third.

In the 10th minute, a fifty-fifty duel contested between KCB forward Kennedy Owino and Tusker keeper Brian Bwire resulted in Owino requiring some medical attention.

The first real highlight involved Tusker's Shiwa Shaphan's cheeky nutmeg on KCB's Kilume Mohammed.

In the 17th minute, a mistimed header by Tusker defender Tom Teka momentarily created panic in the Brewers box, but the resulting turnover by Cliff Oruko resulted in a corner.

An injury to Tusker left back Levin Joseph in the 20th minute forced Robert Matano into subbing on Kevin Monyi.

Musa Masika had the opportunity to put the visitors ahead in the 28th minute when he was put through on goal before easily surpassing Tusker captain Humphrey Mieno at pace. He then got into the Tusker penalty area, before spinning Teka and shooting, but the ball sailed wide.

In the 39th minute, the first real opportunity for Tusker was created, as Jackson Macharia attempted a low shot from the left of the box to the bottom right corner which forced keeper Bryne Omondi into making an excellent save, but the flag went up for offside.

Tusker would then start creating more opportunities and in the 42nd minute, forced Rama Mwenda into handling the ball in his own box, but the officials did not see it, causing Tusker faithful to get incandescent.

Tusker started rather slowly in the second half when Kennedy Owino beat Sakari, who was now playing as a makeshift left back, but he blazed his shot over the bar.

The even nature of the game continued to unravel. Jackson Macharia was sent through on goal in the 55th minute, but he took a shot at goal way too early.

Zedekiah "Zico" Otieno decided to go proactive by subbing on Harrison Mwendwa and Nicholas Kipkirui to give them some attacking impetus in the 65th minute.

The game was increasingly looking like it would be defined by fine margins, and it would come in the form of Michael Oduor in the 68th minute.

Siwa Shapan would exploit a gap left exposed by the KCB midfield before setting up Oduor, who side-stepped Kevin Okumu before releasing a finesse shot into the top right corner of Bryne Omondi's net that may well go down as a goal-of-the-season contender.

The rains would then start pouring on the Ruaraka grounds, causing the already slippery ground to become difficult for the teams to continue playing their normal game, adopting a cautious approach in the last 10 minutes.

KCB however, got a free kick in the 85th minute which caused a moment of confusion as Masika fouled Brian Bwire in the box requiring him to receive slight medical attention.

A bad result for KCB would only be worsened by injury to box-to-box Michael Mutinda, who is now a big doubt for the game on Saturday after being carried off in a stretcher.

In the end, Oduor’s goal would be enough to give Tusker all three points, keeping them second in the league on 58 points. KCB remain fourth on 49 points.
