Al Duhail coach Christophe Galtier is worried over losing his key players, who include Kenya’s Michael Olunga, during the upcoming international break, following their fine run of form.

Al Duhail coach Christophe Galtier is not happy with the upcoming November international break as he feels it will rob him of his key players, such as Kenyan captain Michael Olunga, at a time they were building momentum.

Al Duhail are top of the Qatar Stars League on 19 points, four more than champions Al Sadd after eight matches, and have only lost one game this season, giving them confidence of reclaiming their league title.

Olunga has been key to their rise to the top after bagging seven goals, scoring in his last four league games, but he will soon be off to international duty with Harambee Stars after his club’s league match against Al Shahania on November 9.

The fact that he will be losing his top talents in the middle of a good run is not boding well with French coach Galtier, who feels it will kill the momentum they have, while there is also the risk of injuries, which could prove costly in the title race.

“The upcoming international break will of course not be in our favour as our team includes many international players from their national teams, such as the Qatari national team players, in addition to Michael Olunga, a player from the Kenyan national team,” the former Paris Saint-Germain coach said on Wednesday.

“However, of course, we care about the interests of the Qatari national team and we will try to prepare the rest of the players for our upcoming matches.”

Galtier’s side have a league match away to Al Shamal on Friday as they look to bounce back to winning ways following last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Al Gharafa.

That will be followed by the home match against Al Shahania before Olunga and Co depart for international duty.

The former Gor Mahia striker will be among the key players Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat will be relying on when Kenya seek to revive their slim hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with an away match against Zimbabwe on November 15 before they host Namibia four days later.

Harambee Stars must win both matches and hope Zimbabwe do not beat Cameroon in their final qualification match to seal their ticket to the AFCON for the first time since 2019.
