FOOTBALL Five things learnt in Harambee Stars’ domination of Malawi
Here are some of the things Pulse Sports learnt from Harambee Stars' 4-0 win over Malawi.
It was the second straight match Olunga was scoring twice after his double against Seychelles in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers last November, showing how he has put his struggles in front of goal for the national team behind him.
“Dominant. Proud of the collective effort from the team. God of many chances,” Olunga posted on social media.
Kenya started brightly and were rewarded with the two goals, Olunga connecting well with Daniel Anyembe’s cross to open the scoring in the first minute, before slotting home a penalty three minutes later.
However, Malawi gained control of the match and came close twice before the break but Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat made a number of changes in the second half to regain control of the tie.

FOOTBALL Player Ratings: Olunga, Timbe and Matasi shine as Harambee Stars dominate Malawi
Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga and players like Ayub Timbe and Patrick Matasi were among the star performers in their 4-0 win over Malawi.
The second half was a more even contest but it is Kenya who finished strongly with Timbe slotting home the third before the returning Avire sent home a thunderbolt to kill off the Flames.
It was the second biggest win for Harambee Stars under Firat and Olunga is now looking forward to more, especially with Zimbabwe up next in the tournament’s final on Tuesday.
“God ndio dere [God is the driver]. Praying for better days ahead. Have a blessed Sunday,” he added.
Olunga is showing great form at the right time for Kenya who have Burundi and African champions Ivory Coast next in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June and there is hope that he will keep the fire burning until then.
