The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker has told Kane what he must do over the big-money offer from the Bundesliga giants.

Former Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has advised Harry Kane against making a move to Bayern Munich following reports that Tottenham Hotspur have accepted the Bundesliga champions’ €100 million offer.

A proposal from the Bundesliga side, believed to be worth more than €100million (£86.4m), was accepted by their Premier League counterparts on Wednesday but Kane must now decide whether or not he will make the move.

However, according to Owen, it would be detrimental for Kane’s career to move to Germany when he can become a Premier League legend by breaking Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals in England’s top flight.

“I know Bayern are a massive club and I have huge respect for them but if I were Harry Kane, I’d stay put. There’s no great achievement in winning a trophy with them,” Owen posted online.

“Real Madrid, I would understand. Or one or two top Premier League clubs for that matter. Becoming the all-time Premier League top goal scorer at Tottenham is a bigger achievement than winning the league in a country dominated by one team.”

Kane is both Tottenham and England’s all-time top scorer and is second on the list of the Premier League’s most prolific forwards on 213 goals, 47 below Shearer’s record.

At 30 and given he averages 25 league goals a season, he is well within reach but he is yet to win a major silverware in his career, another thing that might sway his decision given he is guaranteed trophies at Bayern.

It is unclear how the striker will react to the latest development. Kane is into the final 12 months of his contract and Tottenham wants to tie him to fresh terms.

There has been no progress on that so far, which has led the club to consider selling their talisman in the current transfer window rather than running the risk of losing him as a free agent next summer.
