Cadiz midfielder Ivan Alejo who had to apologise after being involved in a racially charged incident involving Vinicius Junior has been fingered in another scandal in LaLiga
Cadiz midfielder Ivan Alejo, accused of aiming racial abuse at Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior in December, has been embroiled in more trouble after biting Villareal’s Aissa Mandi in a LaLiga fixture.
Cadiz midfielder involved in biting incident
Alejo was forced to apologise publicly after he sent out a post on social media with monkey emojis and dancing emojis following Brazil’s exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup after a penalty shootout loss to Croatia.
The social media taunts were believed to be directed at Real Madrid’s Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr., who was part of the Brazil squad, and who had been involved in a clash with Alejo just weeks before the World Cup.
After issuing an apology over the incident, Alejo had kept a low profile until he was seen on video biting Villarreal defender Aissa Mandi during Cadiz’ mid-2eek fixture against the Yellow Submarine.
Alejo escapes punishment after biting incident
Alejo and Aissa Mandi were involved in a scuffle during Cadiz’ 2-0 loss to Villarreal, with the Cadiz midfielder reacting to his opponent celebrating winning a goal kick.
Aissa Mandi celebrated winning the ball for his team against Alejo by standing over the midfielder who was on the floor, and the Cadiz player reacted by jumping to his feet and sinking his teeth into the Villarreal centre-back.
The centre-back made no grand reactions to the bite, and the incident was thus missed by the referee and his VAR.
There have been no post-match reprecurssions for Alejo either, but LaLiga might be compelled to look at the incident again.
