Mikel's Vision for a Different Role
Speaking candidly with CNN, the former Chelsea midfield powerhouse expressed a distinct preference for an administrative role over a coaching position.
“I would love to get involved with the Super Eagles, but not as a manager. I don’t want to get sacked, and I don’t think I can handle that very well. I want to be involved with the national team as someone trying to fix the problems from the top,” Mikel, who has won two English Premier League titles, stated.
His vision extends beyond the pitch, focusing on the structural aspects of football management.
Behind-the-Scenes Influence
Emphasising the importance of off-field strategies, the ex-Super Eagles captain underscored the critical role of management in football success. “If it means to be a mediator between the players and the NFF to make sure things are run properly and have the right people managing what we should do together to make sure that we succeed. Success doesn’t happen only on the pitch but from the top. So for me, that’s where we should start,” added Mikel.
His approach suggests a holistic view of football success, extending his influence beyond the field and into the realms of football administration and strategy.
Mikel continues to be a vocal supporter of the Super Eagles, expressing his support and admiration for the team as they aim for glory in the upcoming AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.
