FUFA has banned KCCA FC striker Simon Tshisungu Kankonde for eight matches after physically assaulting referee Mashood Ssali in his side's 1-0 defeat to Vipers SC last Friday.
The hot-headed player punched Ssali as he contested his decision-making, getting an instant red card before attracting an additional six-game suspension plus Ugx. 1 million fine from the FUFA Disciplinary Panel on Wednesday.
Upon unleashing the punishment, football fans took to social media to express how aggrieved or contented they were with the FUFA decision.
"They should have fined him 5m (million); he thinks he is the only one with a temper," a fan tweeted.
Another added in agreement; "time to end hooliganism in Ugandan football."
"FUFA is doing some good job," one fan reacted.
However, others were left furious; "Football is full of emotions, sometimes you people should act fairly. All this wasn't called for," a fan responded.
"Punishing those who have mis behaved it okay but two punishments, i, for one don't agree with it why suspend him and a fine. This business of fine people money should stop fufa is not about making money," another added.
"This is unfair...to be honest These punishments should be one way not two way....maybe a fine or maybe some games....6 games is a lot of games," one added in frustration.
While Kankonde will sit out eight games, KCCA interim head coach Jackson Mayanja was given a two-game after his comments that Ssali was responsible for the loss. He will also part with Ugx. 1million.
Meanwhile, Vipers' goalkeeping coach Ibrahim Mugisha, who was involved in a physical altercation with KCCA players, was also given a four-game ban off the touchline, with a Ugx.1m fine.
