Harambee Stars midfielder Mohammed was among the stand-out performers for Kenya during their 2026 World Cup Qualifiers fixtures against Gambia and Gabon.

Harambee Stars midfielder Mohammed Bajaber has described his recent national team experience as a dream come true after making a significant impact in Kenya’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon.

The Kenya Police FC midfielder was one of only five locally based players selected by head coach Benni McCarthy for the 23-man squad.

He seized the moment during Kenya’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Gambia on March 20, coming on as a second-half substitute and scoring a crucial goal to spark the team’s comeback.

“It was good. Obviously, I changed the game, thankfully. And we were able to earn a point, crucial points,” he told Kenya Police FC Media.

Bajaber’s strong performance against Gambia earned him a historic starting spot in Kenya’s match against Gabon at a sold-out 30,000-seater Nyayo Stadium.

The young midfielder, who is chasing his first FKF Premier League title with Kenya Police, embraced the opportunity despite Kenya falling 2-1 to the visitors.

“It was an honor, obviously. It’s not every day you get to play for your country and start for your country,” he said.

Although he was not as impactful as he had been against Gambia, Bajaber was still one of the standout performers in the match, showing his potential on the big stage.

Following his national team exploits, Bajaber has now shifted focus back to club duties.

He resumed training with Kenya Police on Monday ahead of their crucial FKF Premier League clash against Posta Rangers at Machakos Stadium on Sunday.

Kenya Police currently lead the league table with 45 points, closely followed by Tusker (44 points) and defending champions Gor Mahia (42 points).

With the title race heating up, Bajaber remains focused on helping his team secure silverware.

“And yeah. Message to the Kenyan fan base and the Police FC fans—I want to thank the fans for turning up in such large numbers. It was an honor to play in front of that many people and, obviously, a dream.”

Despite Kenya’s mixed results in the qualifiers, Bajaber remains optimistic about the team’s future.

“We would have loved to come away with the win, but it’s football. It happens. Obviously, we’re disappointed not to get the result. But next time, we’ll try even harder and get a good result," promised a fired up Bajaber.

As he prepares for his next club challenge, Bajaber is also calling on Kenya Police FC fans to turn up in numbers.

“And as for the Police fans, I’d like to encourage you guys to come for the game on Sunday. Yeah.”

With his breakthrough on the international stage, Bajaber is proving to be a player to watch for both club and country as he continues his rise in Kenyan football.
