The 13-time league champions were second best against Wakiso Giants in their opening game of the second round but relied on Rogers Mato’s lone strike to take all three points.

KCCA FC head coach Morley Byekwaso appreciates the fact that his side has struggled to impress some times.

It is not enough to win games at KCCA, fans demand a free-flowing kind of game and not hard-fought wins.

The Lugogo outfit has had to dig deep in most games but usually gets the job done in front of goal to win games.

The latest result, a 3-2 win over Arua Hill on Friday opened a six-point lead at the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Friday.

But it was not a vintage KCCA performance.

“What we have to do is maintain winning,” Byekwaso said after the game at the MTN Omondi Stadium.

“We didn’t play that well but we won. We wanted to win,” he added.

“How have we won when we are not playing well?” the tactician wondered.

The 13-time league champions were second best against Wakiso Giants in their opening game of the second round but relied on Rogers Mato’s lone strike to take all three points.

The five-goal thriller was tense on Friday, with Muhammad Shaban putting the hosts in an early lead inside the first six minutes.

The former Onduparaka captain the doubled the lead in the 13th minute as KCCA dominated the early stages of the game.

Isaac Ogwang got Arua Hill back in it before halftime and it was the visitors who asked questions for the larger parts of the game.

Innocent Media the second for Livingstone Mbabazi’s side after Mato had restored KCCA’s two-goal cushion.

Now on 35 points, six more than second placed BUL and seven ahead of Vipers, KCCA are in a good place.

“The league is not easy. You can’t be perfect all the time,” Byekwaso noted.

“Last season we were playing well but not winning.”

But with the players KCCA have, it should be easy to play a more free flowing kind of game and not be holding on in almost every game.

And Byekwaso knows it.

“Club culture here is not to defend, when you have players like the ones we have, you can’t be defensive.”

KCCA’s next assignment in the league is a trip to Kitende, and a result against the defending champions would be a big step in the direction of lifting a 14th title.
