Nigeria Moses Simon and Nantes avoided another defeat at home to Marseille in the Ligue 1.
Nigeria’s Moses Simon played an important role as his 10-man club Nantes escaped another defeat at home.
Nantes came from behind to hold Olympique Marseille at home after a 1-1 draw at home Friday night.
Simon shines for Nantes
The winger featured from the start and lasted 90 minutes in the explosive encounter at Stade de la Beaujoire.
Simon started for the third successive time and finally contributed to his first goal this season.
The away side started brilliantly when Ismaila Sarr fired them ahead after just four minutes.
Five minutes later, things went from bad to worse as the home side was reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Bastien Meupiyou.
However, despite being a man down, Nantes fought back to equalise just before the break with Nigeria Super Eagles star Moses decisive.
The 28-year-old found space and time to put in a lovely cross which was expertly finished by his teammate Mostafa Mohamed from close range.
Nantes held on to gallantly share the spoils against a dominant Marseille, who failed to make their numerical superiority count in the end.
Simon’s stats
Apart from the assist, Moses created two chances and made one key passes during his time on the pitch.
He also attempted one shot, completed three of five attempted dribbles, and contributed defensively with two interceptions, five recoveries and two headed clearances.
What the result means
Nantes are still without a win in their first four matches this season. They have lost two and drawn the last two which sees sit 15th on the table.
For Marseille, despite the result are still top of the Ligue 1 with eight points from a possible 12.
