FOOTBALL When Pitso Mosimane turned down an offer to coach Zamalek
Mosimane, currently the head coach of Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli Saudi, revealed he turned down a head coaching role offer from Egyptian giants Zamalek, insisting that the timing wasn’t right.
"The first month, I got paid, but after the first month, I had to wait for two months to get my money, sometimes three months; it has been like that. I have never received a salary every month," Pitso revealed.
"It's not only me saying this. Even the president said so in a recent TV interview, so it's true; since I came here, I've never received my salary every month; no."
The 58-year-old, who joined the Saudi side in September and helped them earn promotion back to the top flight, added that despite now going five months without pay, including about nine match-winning bonuses, they still managed to beat well-paid teams.
"It's an unbelievable story; we're going into the fifth month now (without getting paid), me, my technical team, and the players.
"We haven't been paid match-winning bonuses for about nine games, but we were beating the teams that got salaries; for me, it's God."
Ahli clinched the Yelo League title with a game to spare last week; the Jeddah club was one of the most competitive teams in the SPL, winning three league wins.
The side was, however, shockingly relegated in the 2021/2022 campaign after they finished 15th on the log.
