The Pride of Benue survived a scare at home but are happy to have held on to secure a win.

Lobi Stars assistant manager, Tar Akombo, has stated that only three points are “most important” after his side survived Dakkada FC.

Lobi kept their super six hopes alive courtesy of a narrow 2-1 win over the hardworking team from Akwa Ibom.

Joseph Atule and Kumaga Suur produced goods once again for the Benue side but the result doesn't tell the whole story about the game.

Dakkada almost stole a point

After losing their last four games, the Uyo-based side came into the game on Sunday looking to put a stop to their terrible run.

However, after 47 minutes, the Orange side found themselves down by two goals as Atule and Suur fired the home side into a 2-0 lead.

Dakkada were denied a late point in Jos.

Six minutes later, Dakkada pulled a goal back through Adewale Lasisi in the 53rd minute of the game.

That goal seemed to have rejuvenated the visitors who began to pile on the pressure on their host in search of the elusive equaliser.

Their pressure nearly paid off five minutes from time when Anietan came close to snatching a share of the spoils but watched as Lobi's goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel pulled off an outstanding save to deny the away side.

Three points the most important

After the game, Lobi’s Stars assistant manager, Akombo, noted that while his side was put under pressure by the visitors, getting the three points were the most important thing in the end.

“Generally, I'm happy no matter how the visitors put pressure,” Akombo said.

Lobi Stars have opened up a three point lead at the top of Group B.

“The most important thing is we have gotten the three points, we'll go back to the drawing board and fix things where we are lacking behind", he added.

Lobi go top of the table

With the win, Lobi Stars extended their lead at the top of the table in Group B to three points as they took advantage of the absence of Rivers United.

Kumaga has now scored four goals this season in the NPFL.

The Pride of Benue also extended their unbeaten run to six matches, with five wins and a draw.
