Portuguese coaching icon Jose Mourinho has come under fire from a former Real Madrid star after his exit from AS Roma
Former Real Madrid star Antonio Cassano has criticised Jose Mourinho's coaching abilities, suggesting that the Special One is "completely finished" as a coach and was holding AS Roma back compared to current manager Daniele De Rossi.
Mourinho’s mixed bag at Roma
During Mourinho's time at Roma, the team experienced both highs and lows. In his first season in charge, Roma secured the Conference League title, marking a significant achievement for the club. However, the subsequent season saw Roma falter, with a disappointing exit from the Europa League final. Despite these mixed results, Mourinho's departure elicited strong reactions from the club's supporters.
Many Roma fans expressed their discontent with Mourinho's dismissal, believing it to be unwarranted. However, the subsequent performance of the team under Mourinho's replacement, Daniele De Rossi, has vindicated the club's decision to part ways with the Portuguese manager.
Cassano's criticism of Mourinho
Former Real Madrid star Antonio Cassano has been particularly vocal in his criticism of Mourinho. According to Cassano, Mourinho's coaching abilities are now in question, suggesting that he is "completely finished" as a coach. Cassano believes that Mourinho's tactics and team selection have not evolved over the years, leading to his downfall at Roma.
Speaking on Mourinho's coaching style, Cassano remarked, "As a coach, Mourinho is now completely finished. He is not capable of coaching anymore, he is still doing the same things as 10 years ago."
Cassano hails De Rossi's Impact
In contrast to Mourinho's tenure, De Rossi has revitalized Roma since taking over as head coach. His leadership and tactical acumen have instilled a sense of belief in the team, leading to improved performances on the pitch. Cassano praises De Rossi for his extraordinary job and suggests that he was always destined for success in a coaching role.
According to Cassano, "De Rossi gave Roma the belief that this is a strong team, he’s doing an extraordinary job. He was always destined for this."
Jose Mourinho's departure from AS Roma marked the end of a tumultuous chapter for the club. While his tenure saw some successes, it ultimately fell short of expectations. The appointment of Daniele De Rossi has breathed new life into Roma, with the team showing promising signs under his leadership. As the club looks to the future, the focus remains on building a strong foundation for sustained success in the Serie A.
