Mourinho puts the Eagles', Iwobi's Fulham on alert after dropping new criteria for next club

Jose Mourinho revealed a third factor he would consider when picking his next club.

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has named another criterion for picking his next club as he continues to discuss a future outside Fenerbahce.

The 61-year-old tactician only recently became the Yellow Canaries head coach last summer. However, as Pulse Sports reported, he stated definitively that he would leave when his contract expires in two years

Jose has previously named two criteria he will consider when picking his next job. In a more recent media appearance, he added a third.

Mourinho's first two criteria

Mourinho's love for the pomp and glamour of the Premier League cannot be overstated, having coached three of the top six clubs in the division: Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham.

As Pulse Sports reported, he expressed a desire to return to the English top flight when his Fenerbahce contract expires, signalling to teams in the division they have first refusal to his signature when the time comes.

He further streamlined the invitation in a subsequent presser when he stated his desire to join a team outside the typical top six or seven, as he wants to qualify a mid-table club for Europe. This effectively rules out the bigger teams in England, including a sensational return to either of the three teams he has coached previously.

Iwobi’s Fulham in Mourinho's new criteria

The two-time Champions League winner has added new criteria for future job selection, as he expressed a desire to return specifically to London, where his family are domiciled.

There are seven London-based clubs in the Premier League currently: Arsenal, Brentford, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United.

Mourinho's second criteria effectively rules out Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham. Leaving four teams. Given the relegation factor, that number could go up or down in two years when Jose will be up for grabs; however, a newly promoted side might be too small to accommodate Mourinho's ambitions.

The four London teams yet to be ruled out by the second criteria are all relatively stable and could all be in the Premier League at the time; however, Fulham stand the strongest chance.

Mourinho's home in London is in Belgravia, a district in central London covering parts of the City of Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

So why Fulham? Proximity. Fulham borders Chelsea and Kensington. The Cravens Cottage is famously only 2.2 km away from Stamford Bridge. Fulham meet the sporting criteria Mourinho desires, and they offer him the much-needed proximity to his family and a nostalgic closeness to his former hunting ground.

Alex Iwobi has established himself as a fans favourite at Fulham and given the wealth of mid-table Premier League clubs, it is reasonable to expect that they can keep Iwobi for many more years to come.

Also, while Marco Silva is performing admirably in the role, it is difficult to pass up the chance to hire a manager of Mourinho's profile. Should Fulham take the leap, Jose could have another Nigerian midfield star in his employ.
