The Portuguese manager picked four clubs that could win the Champions League and two clubs that could win the Premier League, but Arsenal missed out on both lists
Jose Mourinho, the distinguished Portuguese coach currently without a club after his departure from Roma in January, has once more made headlines with his latest football predictions.
In a candid appearance on Rio Ferdinand's FIVE YouTube channel, Mourinho shared his insights on various topics, including his predictions for the winners of this season's Premier League and Champions League.
Mourinho's Premier League and Champions League prediction
When discussing the Premier League, Mourinho considered the prospects of Manchester City and Liverpool, two teams that have dominated the English top flight in recent years. Ultimately, Mourinho leaned towards Pep Guardiola's Manchester City as his favorite to clinch the title. "If somebody outside [those two] wins it, for me, it would be a great surprise," Mourinho stated, subtly dismissing the chances of other contenders such as Arsenal, who have shown promise this season.
Turning his attention to the Champions League, Mourinho expressed his affection for one of his former clubs, Real Madrid, and his desire to see them succeed under Carlo Ancelotti's stewardship. However, he acknowledged the strong competition from the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. Despite this, Mourinho's prediction for the Champions League's potential victors narrowed down to Manchester City and Real Madrid, indicating his belief in the strength and capability of these squads on the European stage.
Mourinho's Affection for Former Clubs
Despite his turbulent history with some of his previous employers, Mourinho revealed his soft spot for Real Madrid, highlighting his connection to the club and its current manager, Ancelotti. However, he candidly admitted that his three former Premier League sides—Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur—are not in contention for major honors this season, further underscoring his predictions for Manchester City and Liverpool in the domestic league and his European favorites.
Jose Mourinho's predictions have once again stirred the pot, especially with his apparent snub of Arsenal in the Premier League race. His insights into the potential winners of both the Premier League and Champions League reflect not only his analytical prowess but also his personal biases towards teams and managers with whom he shares a history. As the season progresses, it will be intriguing to see how Mourinho's forecasts stand against the unfolding reality of football's unpredictable nature.
