What happened?

Mourinho made controversial comments about Galatasaray players and staff after the match, which led to the club accusing him of racism and threatening legal action.

“I have to thank the referee (Slovenian Slavko Vincic). After the big dive in the first minute and their (Galatasaray’s) bench jumping like monkeys on top of each other,” said the Portuguese manager.

“If it was a Turkish referee, you would have a yellow card after one minute, and after five minutes, I would have to change him. Thankfully, it was a perfect experience for him.”

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has already banned Mourinho for four matches and fined him £35,218 for his comments.

Galatasaray said that they will file a complaint with FIFA and UEFA about the legendary manager’s behaviour.

However, a Fenerbahce statement revealed on Friday disclosed the Portuguese boss’ intention to sue the defending Turkish champions.

“We would like to announce to the public that a lawsuit for moral damages of 1 million 907 thousand Turkish liras has been filed against Galatasaray Sports Club by Fenerbahçe Sports Club lawyers due to the attack on the personal rights of our Technical Director Jose Mourinho,” read the statement.

What next for Mourinho and Fenerbahce?

Fenerbahce are six points adrift of Galatasaray in the Super Lig after 24 games heading into the campaign's final months. Mourinho's men next face Antalyaspor in the competition on Sunday, March 2.
