The winger was on song, scoring a well-executed free kick against Sofapaka as he won the man-of-the-match award.

Ulinzi Stars’ pacey winger Boniface Muchiri believes his team can win this season’s FKF Cup and finish the league as highly as possible following an inspired victory over Sofapaka on Saturday.

The Soldiers have never tasted cup success despite getting to two finals back in 2016 and 1995 when they lost to Tusker and Rivatex respectively.

The Kenyan international was named man of the match after scoring a goal from a well-executed freekick and constantly created havoc with his excellent one versus one dribbling ability, giving the Sofapaka defense problems throughout the match.

“It is a good motivation for the team. We tried hard and tried to get a win within 90 minutes. We managed to get a win through penalties which put us through,” Muchiri said.

“Now, we have to keep fighting and trying hard in order to ensure that we finish the league in a respectable position. I believe that we can also win this cup ”

The former Tusker FC midfielder joined the Soldiers after winning two league titles and the FKF Cup, in search of a new challenge and a bid to secure his future with employment in the Kenya Defence Forces.

FKF PL Furious FKFPL coaches lambast rampant match fixing in Kenyan football

A couple of culprits were recently arrested for allegedly trying to alter the outcome of a game involving Nairobi City Stars and Sofapaka FC last month. Ulinzi Stars’ head coach, Boniface Mwalala insists that everyone involved in football needs to earn the right to earn greener fortunes by working for it, rather than taking the shortcut route to earn a few bob.

Ulinzi will play his former side in the semifinals of the Cup in three weeks’ time. On Wednesday, they will face AFC Leopards at the Nyayo National Stadium, hoping to get all three points and improve their current position in the standings.
