Every footballer aspires to shine in a significant derby, and as the Mashemeji Derby draws near, Ugandan international Rogers Mugisha is buzzing with anticipation.

Having transferred to K’Ogalo in August from UDPFFC, Mugisha has been performing commendably. But with the derby looming, he is prepped to make his inaugural appearance memorable.

"The prospect of playing in the derby thrills me and the entire team. I'm eager to display my skills and aid my team in clinching a win. For any player, participating in such derbies is a dream realized," Mugisha shared with Pulse Sports.

The celebrated Mashemeji Derby sees traditional Kenyan adversaries, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, locking horns. The giants are scheduled to clash this Saturday in the Kenya Premier League.

Mugisha, having recently secured a goal and the 'man of the match' award in Gor's 1-1 stalemate against KCB, will be instrumental in steering the 'green army' towards victory.

Former Uganda Cranes head coach Jonathan Mckinstry, emphasized the significance of maintaining their undefeated league record.

"We have commenced the season on a strong note, standing unbeaten. However, historical performance tends to become secondary when it's a derby,” Mckinstry said.

“Despite the Leopards having a challenging start, a win in this derby could rejuvenate them.”

"There's no denying the electrifying atmosphere such a match brings, and our objective is to make it memorable.”

“McKinstry added: But above all, our prime focus remains to secure a victory. Our title retention dream is fueled by winning consistently.”

“While winning any match is crucial, a triumph over your fiercest rivals always feels extra special."

After five matches, Gor Mahia are second with nine points, trailing the league leaders, Posta Rangers, by four points.

In contrast, AFC Leopards are ranked 15th, having managed four draws and one defeat in their opening five fixtures
