Uganda Hippos skipper Isma Mugulusi has asserted the team will fight for everything there is to achieve glory at the 2023 Egypt U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Jackson Mayanja coached team open the campaign with a bout against Central African Republic on Monday, and Mugulusi is geared up for the challenge.
"As it is everywhere, the first games of the tournament are always the hardest but we shall fight to ensure we pick maximum points," the youngster said while speaking to the media on Sunday.
Uganda will make it to the 2023 Indonesia World Cup should they progress to the semi-finals, and, the captain is filled with optimism.
"Everyone wants it (qualifying to the World Cup) and you see it in everyone's eyes that they're ready to fight for it."
Mugulusi is one of the few surviving members of the U-20 team that made it to the final in 2021 in Mauritania, before they lost 2-0 to Ghana.
Even though they were bound for the World Cup, it didn't happen with the U20 World Cup cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, but Egypt provides a second chance to write history.
"We are united as one in camp, and we expect to play good football that will also bring the desired results."
Besides Central African Republic, the Hippos will have to fend off opposition from Congo Brazzaville and South Sudan to make it past the group stages.
