The experienced technical director ran out of superlatives for 'Modo' despite getting the boot

Bandari FC interim coach Twahir Muhiddin has heaped praise on Anthony 'Modo' Kimani and described him as "a rare breed of coach” despite getting the sack from the club last week.

Kimani was dismissed after his youthful Bandari side were whitewashed 3-0 by AFC Leopards in the FKF Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.

Speaking during an online question and answer forum, Muhiddin, who worked with Kimani as his technical director, revealed that Modo’s humility and willingness to learn are qualities that will make him a successful coach in future.

“Modo is one of a very few breeds of coaches in this country,” Muhiddin said, “ I have worked with a lot of coaches, but Modo is unique.”

“He accepts that he is still learning, and acknowledges that he is still growing. I used to give him advice almost every day he was here and he would accept my advice.

“He says he has never met a coach like me given my door is always open. I pass my knowledge through teaching and Modo is one coach that is willing to learn. He is a rare breed of coach.”

The ex-Kenya international landed his initial role at the club in February 2021 when he was absorbed as Rwandese tactician Andre Casa Mbungo’s deputy.

He took over the reins in an acting capacity in February last year after Mbungo was sent packing following a horrendous run in the league.

Kimani was ultimately confirmed to the role las August after impressing in the second leg of the campaign.

The coastal side are eighth on the league table on 41 points, 19 adrift of leaders Gor Mahia.
