The goal minder came on for Tom Ikara and put up a man-of-the-match performance, making three penalty saves as he guided the Jinja-based side to a 3-1 penalty win in the final.

Goalkeepers are judged by match-winning saves, something BUL FC goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa displayed against URA FC in the FUFA Super 8 final on Sunday.

The goal minder came on for Tom Ikara and put up a man-of-the-match performance, making three penalty saves as he guided the Jinja-based side to a 3-1 penalty win in the final.

"The coach (Abbey Kikomeko) just told me to keep a cool mind, be calm and concentrate; he believed in me, and I am grateful to God I didn't disappoint," Mutakubwa told Pulse Sports.

The 2021 CECAFA Kagame Cup goalkeeper of the tournament added: "When the spot kicks started, I was a bag of emotions, but I knew that the coach had entrusted me with a big responsibility."

"And I didn't want to disappoint; I panicked but later calmed down and concentrated."

It is the second time the Uganda Cranes shot-stopper is saving penalties for BUL, with the other being in the semifinals against SC Villa.

Mutakubwa scored once and saved two spot kicks in the 6-5 shoot-out win.

Having joined the Eastern giants in June on a two-year deal, the 29-year-old will be expected to lead the side in their quest for their first league title.
