Four wins from as many matches saw them take an early lead but their run was promptly ended on Sunday when they met defending champions and four-time winner St. Lawrence University.

Mutoola Beach Soccer Club started the 2023 season on fire sending their opponents a message that they meant business this season.

Four wins from as many matches saw them take an early lead but their run was promptly ended on Sunday when they met defending champions and four-time winner St. Lawrence University.

Sulaiman Ochero grabbed a brace to add on veteran Rica Byaruhanga and Brian Nkuubi’s strike to give the university side a 4-1 win.

The students returned with more fire as Baker Lukooya netted four and Nkuubi twice as they saw off Buganda Royal 6-1 in their second match of the day

“It was a tight contest but we used our chances well,” David Nnono, the head coach at St. Lawrence University said after the games.

“The results give us the confidence to push as the league advances. We’re going to build on that as we fight to see ourselves finishing in the perfect positions to qualify for the playoffs,” he added.

In the other matches, Nicholas Mwere reminded the national team head coach Angelo Schirinzi of his qualities when he stunned Wolves with six goals as Jinja Lions roared to a 7-2 win.

Mwere added two more later in the day to guide the Lions to another 5-3 victory over Kampala Junior Team for their second win of the day.

The results mean that Jinja Lions climb to the top with 12 points, the same as Mutoola who has a poor goal difference.
