Nabirye said that her move was motivated mainly by the fact that the Queens are primed to win their first league title and could offer continental football.
Uganda Crested Cranes midfielder Joan Nabirye opted to sign for Kampala Queens for exposure.
The midfielder, until Thursday, was in advance talks with reigning FUFA Women Super League Champions. Then, she Corporate made a surprise U-turn and immediately signed for Kampala Queens.
A source at the club told Pulse Sports that the player signed a short-term contract as she scanned for another deal outside Uganda.
Nabirye crossed over from Asubo Gafford Ladies to Kenyan giants Vihiga Queens in February 2020 on a four-year deal but opted to terminate the contract mutually.
The club has been widely reported to be in a severe financial crisis, with their league not played for almost a year due to a FIFA ban that had been slapped on Kenya last year.
Opportunities
Nabirye said that her move was motivated mainly by the fact that the Queens are primed to win their first league title and could offer continental football. The FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo owns the club.
"It's a good feeling to join the Queens of soccer, and I think we will be able to work together to achieve our dreams," the soft-spoken but hard-tackling midfielder said.
"My main mission is to help the team win their first major trophy. If we go on and win, I'll use my experience from CAF to push and achieve more on the continent."
Nabirye was previously linked to a move to Turkey. However, she hopes this deal and Champions League football could raise her profile and land her a better deal.
